TV star Fran Drescher is renowned for her comedy talent and nasal voice. Less well know, however, is that she was diagnosed with uterine cancer in June of 2000.

The cancer was stopped before it progressed beyond Stage 1 – the stage easiest to cure – saving Drescher from traumatic chemotherapy sessions. She has since been given a clean bill of health, and wrote about the experience in Cancer Schmancer, her second book.

She followed up on the book by announcing, on June 21, 2007 (the seventh anniversary of receiving an ‘all clear’ from doctors), the launch of the Cancer Schmancer movement, named after her book. The movement is a non-profit organization dedicated to pinpointing women with Stage 1 cancer and ensuring they get the treatment they need before the cancer can worsen.
